ADOPTION AND USAGES OF ICT BY THE FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGES IN COIMBATORE

The Internet is used by faculty, staff and students in sourcing information. Information and communication technologies assist libraries in providing efficient and current information services. Once the staff and students are able to use these technologies effectively, the teaching, learning and research activities in the college will be made easier for the college community. The most common medium of the ICT is the Internet, which is seen as efficiently providing, in terms of cost and time, in gaining information for doing business. This study seeks to examine the adoption and usage of ICT by the Faculty of Arts and Science Colleges in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. A sample of 500 members (Students, Research Scholars and Faculty members) were selected randomly and were sent the questionnaire. This paper covers the objectives of using digital resources, factors, motivating the user to access the digital resources, online resource search techniques, online resource access problems and suggestion of the respondents to improve the library services.
