Libraries have always been considered as an essential part of the School Education System. However, in India, the School Libraries are neglected a lot. The condition of school libraries in rural India is even worse. This paper attempts to highlight the need and functions of a library in the School Education System and discusses the efforts made by govt. of India to establish the School Libraries. Further, this paper details the current scenario of the School Libraries in the rural India
