Social tags are proved to be important metadata for information retrieval. But due to arbitrary and haphazard nature of social tags, it becomes essential to categorise the tags in various forms. The structure and forms of social tags has to be studied for nature and behaviour of users. This research work is an attempt to understand the character and user behaviour of marine science users. For this research work 5150 marine science, scholarly articles listed in CiteULike were collected with 42,369 tags to examine and analyse. The results show that tags were found with various structure and forms to understand the character and behaviour of marine science taggers.
