The paper examines the importance of public libraries in rural areas, increasing the reading hobbits to masses and increasing the literacy rate and disseminating knowledge. It also analysed the historical origins of famous libraries and learning centres, including public libraries in India and their contribution to the society. The paper discusses the problems faced by the public libraries and how to improve and public library services with the various options available in India
